The 2026-2027 Academic Year orientation session for students of the English Preparatory Program at Karabük University School of Foreign Languages has been held. During the session, which took place in the classrooms of our School during regular class hours, our lecturers informed the students in their own classes about the fundamental aspects of how preparatory education works.
In the first part of the session, which was based on the orientation website prepared by our School, the operation of the English Preparatory Program and its modular structure based on the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (CEFR) were introduced. In this context, students were informed about the period-based structure of the academic year, the start and end dates of the periods, and the language levels in the program. The placement function of the Placement Test and the conditions for exemption from the English Preparatory Program were also explained.
Under the heading of assessment and evaluation, the requirements for successfully completing each level, the components that make up the level grade and their percentage weightings, the types of exams administered throughout the academic year, and process-oriented portfolio tasks were discussed. The decisive role of regular attendance in academic success was emphasized, and students were reminded of the importance of monitoring their own attendance. While the coursebooks and online resources to be used at each level were introduced, it was underlined that only original and legally obtained course materials should be used.
The session continued with explanations of the conditions for make-up exams, the options for repeating the preparatory program, and the summer school. The units students should contact for the procedures they may need throughout the academic year were introduced. In addition, information was provided on learning and student support services that support learning outside the classroom, such as the Independent Learning Centre, the computer and language laboratories, and the Career Centre.
In the final part, the documents and forms that may be required during preparatory education and their submission processes, the online systems used to follow announcements and academic information, and useful links were shared. Students were also directed to the frequently asked questions pages so that they can easily find answers to their questions.
The orientation session aimed to ensure that our students learn their rights and responsibilities regarding preparatory education at the beginning of the academic year, follow the relevant procedures correctly, and continue their education in a well-planned manner.
