Turkish Language Association’s Terminology Standardization Workshop
The “2nd Terminology Standardization Workshop,” organized by the Turkish Language Association (TDK) with the aim of establishing consistency in the usage of terms in the field of educational sciences and preparing a comprehensive terminology dictionary, was held on March 13–14, 2025, at the Bilkent Campus of the Turkish Language Association, which operates under the auspices of the Atatürk High Institution of Culture, Language, and History.

The opening session of the workshop was attended by TDK Vice President Assoc. Prof. Dr. Harun ŞAHİN, Chair of the TDK Terminology Science and Practice Committee Assoc. Prof. Dr. Ender ATEŞMAN, and distinguished scholars in the field of educational sciences. Opening speeches were delivered by Assoc. Prof. Dr. Harun ŞAHİN, President of the Association for Curriculum and Instruction (EPÖDER) Assoc. Prof. Dr. Mustafa Cem BABADOĞAN, Honorary President of EPÖDER Prof. Dr. Özcan DEMİREL, Aydın Adnan Menderes University Faculty Member Prof. Dr. Kerim GÜNDOĞDU, and Assoc. Prof. Dr. Ender ATEŞMAN.

In his opening remarks, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Harun ŞAHİN emphasized the significance of the workshop in addressing conceptual confusion in the field of educational sciences and highlighted ongoing efforts to promote Turkish as a globally recognized language of science. He also underscored the importance of establishing a common terminology framework across the Turkic world.

This notable academic event, jointly organized by the TDK and EPÖDER and considered the first of its kind in the context of national-level terminology standardization initiatives, witnessed the active participation of Karabük University’s School of Foreign Languages Director, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Mustafa POLAT. Representing the university, Dr. Polat contributed to sessions focused on resolving inconsistencies and ambiguities in terminology used within the field of educational sciences.

As part of the program, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Polat took an active role in various sessions alongside scholars from different universities and delivered a summary presentation during the closing session. In his remarks, he stated:
“This academic endeavor, which can be considered the first step of a long-term project, primarily aims to establish national consistency in the terminology used within educational sciences and ultimately to develop a terminology dictionary. As a member of Karabük University, I am honored to have played an active role in this valuable initiative led by the Turkish Language Association and EPÖDER, and we intend to continue contributing academically to terminology standardization efforts in the future.”

Over the course of the two-day workshop, participants engaged in in-depth discussions of various terms and concepts in the field of educational sciences, laying the groundwork for future dictionary and terminology studies.
